Actually retired 6 years ago - then bought another practice and hired an orthodontist to do the work, didn't work out well, so now taking over, working just 1 or 2 days a week, still enjoying patient contact.
But so much more in digital entry, technology etc.
School Story:

Peter Jackson and I challenging each other in our old Ford cars; we decided to cross Putah Creek, spin around, then come back across and back up the levee. His '48 V8 did nicely, great spinning around - my derelict '49 flathead 6 made it across, good spins, but clutch gave out on the way back at the deepest part of the creek!
That is NOT" the rest of the story!" Peter and I jobbed ethyl alcohol from organic chem lab, and managed to consume it just before a dinner time. I was usually pretty quiet ( except for piano playing)...came bursting in late and explaining to King John Hardie (bless his memory) that 'everything was under control'!!! It wasn't.

I was a pledge brother with Bob.  He always had a sneaky sense of humor, as in Rocks in the hubcap,  or short sheets, with a barely detectable smile!  Rode the rails with him, successful during college time, but later with our sons, and got caught!  But for sure none of us had any ID!

      Joined him on a hike up Mt. Shasta to celebrate his 60th birthday, and we were successful, in contrast to several previous attempts.  He was tough, smart, and quiet about it!  He called the shots, and had a good life.

What a good life for brother Shaffer, whom I never saw once since leaving Davis in 1958!  A good man, blessed for his care in family and community affairs!
